Guillaume's ultimate challenge: preparing for surgery
Physical activity became my ticket out of the hospital.
About this story
Physical activity became my way of trying to earn my ticket out of the hospital

Guillaume’s challenge started when a routine stomach ache led to the unexpected diagnosis of a tumor on his pancreas. He had to quickly process the new situation and prepare for a major procedure: the Whipple surgery.
Guillaume has always loved sports, and this passion helped shape the way he approached the months that followed. Setting small daily goals gave him a clear focus and helped shift his attention away from the upcoming surgery. This sense of physical discipline created a steady rhythm, even during hospital stays, and movement and routine offered a helpful anchor. Together with his oncologist, he built a kind of “team” around his preparation for surgery. He treated surgery as he would an important sporting event, with both physical and mental preparation.

Approaching surgery like this mountain pass
After his surgery, Guillaume set a goal: to regain enough strength to return home. Step by step, he built up his daily walks, sometimes reaching 3 hours a day. These moments of movement became a way to reconnect with his body and create a positive routine.
Today, Guillaume is an exceptional Cancer survivor. He looks back on his experience as a period where staying active helped him move forward with personalized preparation and gentle, consistent effort.
