About this story
“When my illness hit, I stopped working for only a very short time. In the end, music was my only true escape.”
Blois, France: For almost thirty years, Jean-Luc stood behind turntables, reading a room, shaping nights through sound, rhythm and instinct. Lights, speakers, bodies moving in sync. That world became part of him. Even when he later moved into real estate for more stability, music never really left.
When life changes tempo
In 2012, everyday life took on a different pace when Jean-Luc was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Hospital visits replaced late nights and scans replaced DJ sets. Days became structured around treatment, results and waiting. Even then, Jean-Luc refused to step away from the things that made him feel like himself.
Through music & radio, his passion for sound kept him moving forward.
“For me, music decorates the silence.”
Still in the room
Music never disappeared from his surroundings. Friends, evenings out and shared moments continued whenever possible. He stayed part of those nights, still drawn to laughter, movement and sound. Even when he noticed people looking at him differently, he kept showing up. He kept dancing.
Music finding its way back
Back home from a weekend in Rocamadour (France), away from hospital routines and daily constraints, inspiration returned and Jean-Luc found himself composing again.
Music had shaped Jean-Luc's life for decades, and years after his diagnosis it still gives rhythm to his days, bringing creativity, movement and connection with others. Today, he hosts “Melting Pot”, his own radio show, where he broadcasts two hours of funk, house and disco remixes.
